2014 was the year Malta was firmly put on the map as Europe’s hottest new music destination, thanks to festivals such as Sunscape. With many quality mainstream festivals coming to mainland Malta, 2015 and 2016 were the years Sunscape, just a 20 minute ferry ride further away, defined itself as the intimate underground festival it aimed to become. With no sign of slowing down, 2017 sees over 60 acts across 3 stages and a new performing arts stage in what is set to be an unforgettable three days and nights. Sunscape 2017 sees alternative acts such as electronic music sensations Tube & Berger play a coveted dj-set together with some of Malta’s top house artists. Tube & Berger who are renowned for giving electronic music an organic and “live character” are also responsible for the “It Began In Africa“ charity project supported from artists such as Timo Maas, Ida Engberg, Format B and Pirupa. With many top chart hits such as Imprint of pleasure and Come on now they bring something extra to the dancefloor every single time. General Levy, a real veteran of the UK urban music scene is a pioneer and a genre defining artist in Jungle music. Ragga jungle is a subgenre of oldschool jungle that emerged c. 1989–1990. From the Garance Reggae Festival to the Summer Jam and also the Reggae Sun Ska to the Realbeat Reggae Festival, all have been conquered by the extraordinary live talent of this performer. Ott is an English artist and producer that has pioneered the Psy Dub Genre. Having collaborated with the likes of Brian Eno, The Orb & Simon Posford (Hallucinogen, Shpongle) Ott is a sonic experimenter that has travelled the world sharing his unique sound. Radikal Guru one of the brightest lights of the roots-influenced underground community for the past half-decade has pioneered a compelling and unique fusion of sounds that encompass dub, reggae and dubstep with varying energy levels that cater for both dancefloor focussed ruckus and for more meditative listening. He has hit spots all around the world as far afield as Russia to South Africa to the US and Mexico to assault soundsystems with bass-fuelled beats and positive vibes. Revellers can also experience all around artist extraordinaire Cygna and London’s Urban Warfare Crew supported by Malta’s top array of local talent. Much more than simply a music festival, Sunscape will feature several areas that celebrate and integrate ART and LIFESTYLE. 2017 is a year where Sunscape will focus on the freedom of festival experience making attending the festival an adventure each person creates for themselves. Festival-goers can expect to interact with art installations or take part in beach yoga and painting workshops by day, then dance under the stars just meters from the sea by night. This year Sunscape is introducing the new The Core Stage focused entirely on performing arts with its own late night programme to keep us stimulated till early hours. You can also visit Satori Fields in an idyllic Sunflower field to take empowering workshops, enjoy talks and meditations throughout the day and explore the carefully curated holistic area with massage, Reiki healing, Swedish body massage, aromatherapy massage and much more.
