The Big Bang stage

The Big Bang is perched at the top of the site, overlooking the entire festival and the beach. It remains a favourite with Sunscapers, as it almost has a life of its own. The Big Bang is the place to go to to go a bit wilder.  It hosts a legendary opening party on Friday by Duncan F featuring a variety of electronic music from electroswing to happy, groovy house.  On Saturday its all about Psy Ambient, Psy Dub, Psy Trance and Progressive Psy Trance. On Sunday it closes the festival with some reggae, jungle & DNB.

The Black Hole

Discover the power of light and colour! Rafaelle Labro is the magician who transforms the black void into hypnotic, living art. Live UV performances utilise movement to embody the intangible. Join the tribe with UV face and body paint and become part of the art. This UV lounge overlooking the festival grounds is also a wonderfully psychedelic chill out area.

The Hive

The Hive is a new stimulating space that inspires creativity and connections. It celebrates imagination and playfulness with live experiential art, exhibitions, installations, slacklining and workshops by local and international artists.

The Hive hosts The Core Stage – a new performing arts stage, the enigmatic and magical Fun House, the Zen Lounge chillout area, an Artisan Market and the Food Market.

The Core stage

The Core of The Hive is the heart of performing arts at Sunscape. A new addition for 2017, art performances and jam sessions will run throughout the festival, including a dramatic late night programme to tantalise and inspire.

The Fun House

Also a new addition for Sunscape 2017, The Fun House celebrates serendipity. The established way, the quickest way or the known way is not necessarily the most interesting or the most wonderful. The Fun House offers opportunities to explore the hidden, unravel the puzzle and experience chance encounters.

The Zen Lounge

The Zen Lounge is a tea room, cocktail lounge and chillout area rolled into one. Nestled in a corner of The Hive, offering plush cushions and shade, featuring a fusion of Reggae, Downtempo and Electronica music and in perfect view of the The Core Stage, it is a place of convergence of weary bodies, open hearts and creative minds, all day till late.

Artisan Market

Also new for Sunscape 2017, nestled within The Hive, we find a new Artisan Market with its mixture of ethnic and eclectic artisan goods and unique handmade items. You can also learn from our select new-wave vendors by observing how the items are made.

Food Market

Nourish your body and mind with a selection of delicious soul food. From refreshing fruit smoothies to chunky Portobello burgers, all bursting with delicious ingredients, we guarantee this nosh will hit the spot, whether you’re into healthy food or not.

Solar Market

Located between the two main festival areas, the Solar Market is open to Sunscapers and also the general public. A sunny and colourful market offering a wide variety of items, from ethnic clothing and jewellery to eclectic home decor, the Solar Market is an experience in its own right.

Satori Fields

A giant sunflower field is the extraordinary setting for the Satori Healing Fields at Sunscape. Located a little off from the main festival area, closer to the camping area, the Satori Healing Fields offer an ideal retreat into holistic healing and wellbeing. Here you can indulge in a selection of therapies, engage with stalls promoting worthy causes and participate in a variety of free and premium workshops.

Ramla Beach

The stunning location for Sunscape Festival is “Ir-Ramla il-Ħamra”, or “the beach of red sands”. The beach looks even more impressive against the crystal clear blue-green sea and the green fertile valley leading down to the bay. The entire area and the sand dunes are protected by Natura 2000.

Ramla bay is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches in the Maltese Islands, ideal for sunbathing, swimming, beach-volley and water sports. Workshops in surfboard yoga and freediving will also be held as part of the Sunscape programme.

2014 was the year Malta was firmly put on the map as Europe’s hottest new music destination, thanks to festivals such as Sunscape. With many quality mainstream festivals coming to mainland Malta, 2015 and 2016 were the years Sunscape, just a 20 minute ferry ride further away, defined itself as the intimate underground festival it aimed to become.  With no sign of slowing down, 2017 sees over 60 acts  across 3 stages and a new performing arts stage in what is set to be an unforgettable three days and nights.  Sunscape 2017 sees alternative acts such as electronic music sensations Tube & Berger play a coveted dj-set together with some of Malta’s top house artists. Tube & Berger who are renowned for giving electronic music an organic and “live character” are also responsible for the “It Began In Africa“ charity project supported from artists such as Timo Maas, Ida Engberg, Format B and Pirupa. With many top chart hits such as Imprint of pleasure and Come on now they bring something extra to the dancefloor every single time.  General Levy, a real veteran of the UK urban music scene is a pioneer and a genre defining artist in Jungle music. Ragga jungle is a subgenre of oldschool jungle that emerged c. 1989–1990. From the Garance Reggae Festival to the Summer Jam and also the Reggae Sun Ska to the Realbeat Reggae Festival, all have been conquered by the extraordinary live talent of this performer. Ott  is an English artist and producer that has pioneered the Psy Dub Genre. Having  collaborated with the likes of  Brian Eno, The Orb & Simon Posford (Hallucinogen, Shpongle) Ott is a sonic experimenter that has travelled the world sharing his unique sound. Radikal Guru one of the brightest lights of the roots-influenced underground community for the past half-decade has pioneered a compelling and unique fusion of sounds that encompass dub, reggae and dubstep with varying energy levels that cater for both dancefloor focussed ruckus and for more meditative listening. He has hit spots all around the world as far afield as Russia to South Africa to the US and Mexico to assault soundsystems with bass-fuelled beats and positive vibes. Revellers can also experience all around artist extraordinaire Cygna and London’s Urban Warfare Crew  supported by Malta’s top array of local talent.satori-fields Much more than simply a music festival, Sunscape will feature several areas that celebrate and integrate ART and LIFESTYLE. 2017 is a year where Sunscape will focus on the freedom of festival experience making attending the festival an adventure each person creates for themselves. SUP Yoga at Sunscape: You Think you Know, but you Have no Idea!

So, you think you know yoga? Or, you think you know SUP? Until you’ve done yoga on a SUP board, you have no idea! Maybe you’re a seasoned yogi, a lover of yoga retreats and a headstand master. Or maybe you sigh and roll your eyes, believing that everyone who likes yoga is also a vegetarian female with a penchant for coconut water. Maybe you’re the owner of a SUP board and have toured the world with paddle in-hand. Maybe you think “SUP” is a way of saying “hi” in America. Whatever yoga and SUP mean to you, SUP Yoga challenges all expectations! SUP Yoga stands for Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga. body-2Deep Focus and Connection SUP elevates traditional yoga practices by challenging your balance and focus. It makes even the most simple poses and paddling completely fresh. The deepest parts of your body and soul work in overtime to keep yourself and your mind on the board. In normal yoga practice and SUP session, you can depend on the use of your larger muscle groups to move you within and between poses. During a SUP Yoga session your body is forced to use the smaller muscles that improve your alignment. Usually that’s the muscles inside muscles, like your interior abs, which are the true source of balance. Funnily enough, the interior muscles are also closest to hearts, brains, and chakras! Maybe this is the reason why so many yogis find new connections with their practices after SUP… body-1First Time Fun Many first-time SUP-ers are also first-time Yogis. A lot of people who are disinclined to try yoga because it’s a “hippie” thing are willing to try SUP. Great! SUP combines two sports into one, meaning that people can explore either one (SUP or yoga) in a new way. Plus, the class is naturally less twisty intimidating than a normal yoga class. Since the very basic yoga poses are practiced, first-time yogis don’t have to be worried about finding themselves tied in knots. First-time SUP-ers and yogis like that SUP Yoga is basically 100% immersion in a new sport. By the time our session is over, most first-time SUP Yogis feel like seasoned veterans! body-3The Best Part One of the most unique things about SUP yoga is Sivasana, the final pose. This is a “resting posture” where yogis simply lay on the board, fingers and toes in the water, with the sun on their face and a loose, happy body. During Sivasana it’s simply you, the board, and the bright blue water. It’s one of the most magically relaxing ways to meditate. After a challenging SUP Yoga session, your body simply dissolves into the water… Surrounded by friends, tunes, and sun, there’s no better time to try SUP Yoga than at the Sunscape Festival.
